WORTHINTON, Minn. – A car of storm-chasers stopped to avoid downed power lines during heavy rains and was struck by a truck. Martha Lilian Llanos Rodriguez, 30, of Mexico City, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a meteorologist. Three fellow storm-chasers were taken to the Worthington hospital: Bradford Scott Barrett, 42, of Annapolis, Maryland; Diego Alvaro Campos, 37, of Chili; and Aldo Alberto Viscara-Avilez, 33, also of Chili. Barrett’s injuries were described as life-threatening. A third vehicle plowed into the power lines. The driver, Tyler Scott Gilbery, 23, of Tea, South Dakota, suffered only non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver, Jaskaran Singh, 26, of Ottawa, Ontario, was not injured. The accident was about 11:55 p.m. on Interstate 90 two miles east of Worthington.
