SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Summer camps for kids are having staff shortages due to the robust U.S. economy and full employment. At Good Earth Village as an example, the executive director, Diana Parks, said tshe’s in “desperate need” of 18 more counselors. As a result, it may be, Parks said, that 500 kids will be turned away. Good Earth pays counselors $450 a week plus cabin space and meals. These mostly are college students. The usual recruiting pool for counselors has been hampered, she said, by the CoVid pandemic that hurt college enrollment. Also, college students are finding better-paying summer jobs.
