NEW LISBON, Wis. – The man arrested in the grudge-assassination of a retired judgeat home in New Lisbon early Friday was hospitalized in a medically tenuous condition, sources said. Douglas K. Uhde, 56, was found un the judge’s basement with a gun at his side, apparenttly having shot himself. It was unclear whether Uhde was taken to an emergency room 10 miles away in Mauston or to a larger hospital in Tomah, 18 miles away; or in LaCrosse, 65 miles away; or in Madison, 80 miles away. Uhde was yet to be charged, sources said. Sources said that Judge Roemer had been zip-tied to a chair and shot.
