WINONA, Minn. – A 30-year classroom veteran, Kirstin Schultz, was named Teacher of the Year in a surprise ceremony at Jefferson School. Schultz was chosen by the Winona unit of the WEA teachers organization. Schultz has worked for Winona Schools her entire career. After graduating college, she landed at Dakota Elementary, then Ridgeway. She has taught 22 years at Jefferson, all but one at third grade. The WEA award caught her unawares. The Jefferson gym was filled with cheers, laughs and balloons. and Herky the Winhawk. Schultz said she wants her students to love school.
