GOODVIEW, Minn. —To maintain customer service, the Verizon telecom company dismantled its antennas atop the Goodview water tower for the tower’s 60th year rehab. A Verizon mobile response team, normally dispatched to weather disasters, erected temporary antennas on the side of the water tank —  not quite as high as the water-tower antennas but good enough.

Sheathed in plastic. The water tank was sealed all around for sand-blasting and repainting. The sheath, vulnerable to winds, generally was hoisted on cables to the top overnight, then dropped down in the morning. Image: Steve Lunde
