WINONA, Minn. – You might say that Sheriff Ron Ganrude is chomping at the bit. His major project for years, the $25.6 million new Winona County jail, remains on schedule to be on stream in November. Granrude released this interim timeline, which requires closing one block of Third Street from October 3 to October 24.

The schedule:

Barricades. Yellow blocks will be barricades on Third Street between Washington Street and the Highway 43 ramps to the Interstate Bridges. The yellow block at Huff warns that traffic is available only to the Fastenal car park. The yellow block at the Kensington corner on Johnson  Street warns too that Third is for local traffic only.

> Ocober 3: Barricades go up on Third Street between the Courthuse and Main Streets. There will be access to Fastenal parking but only from Huff.

> October 5: Excavators begin utility work probably for two weeks.

> October 17: Steel jail cell modules arrive with heavy traffic and crane work for six days.
