MADISON, Wis. – Governor Tony Evers is weighing his options on how to counter the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s new abortion decision. The decision threatens Wisconsin’s practice of allowing abortion. Evers’ options include executive actions, the governor said. “We are going to do everything we can in my power, whether it’s executive action or working with others on other opportunities to fight this as long and hard as we can,” Evers said. The Supreme Court decision, issued Friday, overturned the Roe v. Wade case that had allowed abortions as a constitutional right since 1973. The decision appears to reinstate an 1849 anti-abortion law in Wisconsin, although the law, 173 years old, had been ignored for decades.
