EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Pressure is growing on District Attorney Gary King to resign amid reports of being drunk on the job. falling asleep during meetings and court proceedings, and erratic behavior. There also is an investigation into a sexual harassment charge. The latest incident was Friday when County Administrator Kathryn Schauf reported King struggling to stay awake in a 7:30 a.m. meeting. Deputies checked on King after the meeting. He explained he had family issues that kept him awake at night. Deputies searched King’s office for alcohol but found nothing. At an afternoon court hearing, however, there was an odor about King. Judge Sarah Harless said she would not proceed with the hearing until a breath test for alcohol was taken. The test showed .05% alcohol in King’s system. The judge postponed the hearing. Meanwhile, former colleagues have asked Governor Tony Ever in recent weeks to remove King from office.
