HAGER CITY, Wis. — In a fierce battle of Trumpites, Derrick Van Orden of Hager City decisively defeated Jessi Ebben of Eau Claire to face incumbent Democrat Ron Kind in the November general election. Kind has represented the Wisconsin Third Congressional District for 12 terms. Neither Van Orden nor Ebben was endorsed by Trump, but both claimed to be close to Trump people. Van Orden used television ads to claim support from former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. Not to be outdone, Ebben claimed support from Trump loyalist Jim Jorden, a first-termer in Congressman from Ohio. Both espoused pro-life and pro-gun stances — as well as having some kind of monopoly on patriotism. Van Orden emphasized being a retired Navy Seal. He now has a hobby farm at Hager City. The preliminary totals: Van Orden 36,000, and Ebben 18,000. Van Orden next faces Kind, who easily defeated LaCrosse pediatrician Mark Neumann in the Democratic primary 53,000 to 13,000.
