MARSHALL, Minn. — A Marshall meat producer, Turkey Valley Farms, announced it’s tracking U.S. Labor Department actions against a giant cleaning contractor that provides crews for its 100,000-square foot plant in Marshall. The cleaning contractor, PPS of Wisconsin, which has contracts at 400 packing plants, is under investigation for systematic recruiting and hiring of under-age kids for dangerous scut work. Turkey Valley Farms issued a statement that it “takes these allegations very seriously” and it is “reviewing the matter internally.” All contractors, Turkey Valley said, are expected to share the company’s commitment to health and safety and to foster a safe work environment as well as to obey labor laws. Turkey Valley Farms promised “all appropriate action, based on the outcome of the investigation.”
