LEWISTON, Minn. – The Lewiston-Altura School Board voted 6-1 to close the Altura school. Next fall the only grades at Altura — the fifth and sixth — will be moved to the district’s two other schools in Lewiston. The Board was moved by the argument that the move would free funds for more high school teachers in Lewiston, as well as more sixth-grade class sections.
How they voted
To close: Toby Brummer, Melissa Meich, Brein Naki, Jenny Koverman, Dave Peingle, Sarah Sommer.
Against: Connie Meyer.

End of the line. The fifth-graders and sixth-graders who started their classes at the Altura school this fall will say good-bye. Next August they’ll assigned to larger schools 10 miles away in Lewiston. Image: Steve Lunde
