WATERLOO, Iowa –Top brass at the Tyson Foods plant were suspended without pay pending an investigation into reports that supervisors took bets on how many workers would get COVID disease. The giant food processor’s chief executive, Dean Banks, in Springdale, Arkansas, said the reported behavior, if confirmed, would be rooted out. Banks hired former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to lead an internal investigation. The allegations grew out of lawsuit filed by the family of Isidro Fernandez, one of five Waterloo workers who died of COVID complications. Among other rthngs, the lawsuit alleges that Waterloo supervisors ordered sick workers to stay on the job.
