LOS ANGELES – The Winona County-born drag performer Utica Queen wasn’t the top contender on Episode 6 of the Ru Paul television drag show. Nor was she 11th either and survives for another week. In thhe Little Black Dress competition Utica fashioned an outfit fish-hook earrings she had had found. Her hat, in fact, was topped by an oversize fishhook that looked like it needed a worm, a really big worm, for a really big fish. Her lips were garrishly smeared, deep, dark red.

College days. Nathan Mundt, whose nom de plume is Utica Queen, double-majored in fine art and theater production at Hamline University. To one interviewer he said: “I basically went to school to become a drag queen.”
