WINONA, Minn. – Veterans posted 24-hour honor guards at the Veterans Park flag poles at Lake Winona to mark the of World War II 75 years ago. Jon Grossardt of the Winona Veterans Council said the 75th anniversary was especially important. “World War II veterans are obviously reaching the age now where there are hundreds of them passing away,” Gossardt said in an interview on radio station KWNO. “It’s a rapidly declining population we have. We want to be able to honor them.”
