ST. PAUL, Minn. — Governor Tim Walz activated the Minnesota National Guard in anticipation of protests against a judge’s decision to drop one of the charges against police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd. Floyd’s death, in May, led to days of protests and rioting. Walz used the Guard against the rioting. Also he pre-emptively activated the Guard when Chavin was released from prison on bind.
