ST. PAUL, Minn. – Facing a new spike in COVID infections in the state, Governor Tim Walz said he needs his peacetime emergency powers extended so he can act swiftly. He called a new special session of the Legislature – his fifth – to extend his emergency powers. By law, the special powers can be granted only in 30-day increments. The special session will be Monday. Walz said he hopes for a one-agenda, one-day session.
