ST. PAUL, Minn. — Governor Tim Walz has activated the National Guard to stand by to help with any civil unrest during the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged in he death of George Floyd. The Walz executive order enables the Guard’s commander, one-star general Shawn Manke, to proceed with contingency planning just in case public safety comes into jeopardy in Minneapolis. St. Paul and “other communities.” The lead defendant, Derek Chauvin, is scheduled for trial March 8.
