WINONA, Minn. – A Winona man told police that he extended condolences to a man at an East End neighborhood tavern on the recent loss of his father. The guy, whom witnesses said was very drunk, responded that he would kill the sympathizer. Perplexed, the first man went home, pondered whether he should do anything, and decided that a death threat is indeed a death threat. He called police. He told officers that he knew the other guy vaguely and was merely extending sympathy. By the time police got to the bar, the drunk was gone. Witnesses corroborated what had happened, police said. This incident began about 5:40 p.m. at the Mankato Bar at 477 Mankato Avenue.
