WAUSAU, Wis. – A jury found a rural Marathon County woman guilty of first-degree murder in the gunshot slaying of her husband in a life insurance scheme. Next for Cindy Schulz-Juedes, 67, is a mandatory life prison term at her sentencing hearing in March. Schulz-Juedes had pleaded innocent. She claimed she had slept in a camper outside their home the night of the slaying. In the morning, she said, she went in to check on her husband because she thought he overslept and was late for work. He was dead. The prosecution noted Schulz-Juedes held numerous insurance policies on her husband, which that totaled more than $900,000.
