KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 750,000-gallon Moorhead water tower with a colorful wrap-around mural was voted Minnesota’s best in a People’s Choice contest. The Kansas City-based industrial painting firm Tnemec, which specializes municipal tanks, said there were 5,000 local votes. Rochester’s 171-foot corn cob tower came in second – even though Rochester is twice Moorhead’s population. Tnemec likes to encourage local pride with energetic paint jobs that bespeak local attractions and activities – not just same-o same-o. The Rochester corn cob was repainted and otherwise spruced up this year, but, alas, it’s 88 years old.
