WINONA, Minn. – Thirteen years after Winona High School Coach John Cassellius began the tradition, Winhawk football players again went grade school to grade school to spread Herkymania. Yes, it was Homecoming week again. Players spoke about the value of being a good student, then split up and each read a book to individual classes and fielded questions. To be sure, they taught the kids the Winona High fight song. Other Homecoming Week festivities include a parade Friday at 5:30 p.m. from the high school to Paul Giel Field.

Earlier: High school homecoming parade, then kickoff

Once upon a time. Mason Langowski, a 6-foot Winhawk runningback, reads to fourth-graders at Washington-Kosciusko school.

Herky the Winhawk

Herky Fight Song

[short form]

We are bound to win this day

As we battle in the fray

We will fight, fight, fight fight.

Every player knows when the whistle blows

We will fight, fight to the end

We will fight, fight, fight to defend

U rah Urah Winona.

Go Winhawks!
