WINONA Minn. – The First Congregational Church, a Gothic Revival structure designed and build in 1882 for $38,000, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The stone-block church, still in use at 161 West Broadway, was designed by William H. Willcox, a nationally recognized architect.  It comprised 22,400 square feet. The church, which took 2-1/2 years to build, was the second home of the congregation.  The predecessor church was built in 1854, three years after Winona was platted.  The Register includes places significant for architecture, archaeology, engineering and culture with integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling and association.
