WINONA, Minn.— The Winona High School boys hockey coach Fran McDevitt has marked his 500th game. McDevitt hadn’t been counting, so it was a surprise when he saw so many former players in the Bud King Arena stands. Between periods they converged on the ice to mark the milestone. He’s coached 26 years. The match, however, wasn’t a winner for the Winhawks. The Red Wing Wingers won 3-2. With the new year, McDevitt is on his way to 600.
