WINONA, Minn. – The local housing market had a brisk 2020, said Bob Bambenek, the county recorder. House sales totaled 725, the most since the 1980s, he said. The total would have been higher if more houses had been for sale, he said. Bambanek credited mortgage rates, some as low as 2%, for fueling demand. Also, Bambenek said, rural home construction was at a record pace.

House values

The typical range of house transactions was $150,000 to $200,000 in 2020, Bambenek said. The biggest selling category in recent years had been $100,000 to $150,000. Most in demand, he said, were three-bedroom single-floor houses.
