WINONA Minn. – Winona Post reporter Alexandra Retter won first place in the New Journalist category of the Minnesota Newspaper Association annual statewide competition. Retter’s portfolio included investigative work on proposed cuts to Winona State University’s Children’s Center. In another category the Winona Post’s redesigned website won first place. Other awards to the Post:
> Ashley Blum and Andy Boysen, second place for a UFO-inspired house advertisement touting Post classifieds ads as “out of this world.”
> Chris Rogers, third place for a column on newspaper ethics, specifically the Post’s policy on removing old articles about certain minor crimes.
> Blum, Boysen and Monica Veraguth, third place for typography and design.
> Overall, third place in using photography as a whole.
