MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A Republican candidate for governor, construction contractor Tim Michels, eased off his self-proclaimed alliance with ex-president Donald Trump. At a townhall forum Mi cels deferred on whether he supports a 2024 Trump bid for president. The waffling departed from Michels’ earlier unbridled Trump enthusiasm. Nationally Trump has faced growing allegations of criminal conduct related to his 2020 loss of the presidency. At the same townhall Michels’ rivals for the GOP nomination for governor, former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and State Representative Tim Ramthun, also begged off supporting Trump.
