LACROSSE, Wis. – A woman on a hiking trail behind the Gundersen hospital was attacked, knocked down and dragged toward the Mississippi River before shouting and fighting the attacker off. Passersby came to the woman’s aid. The man disappeared, but police found Joseph A. Grzegorek, 25, nearby and arrested him. This was about 2:30 p.m. Grzegorek gave police a LaCrosse address.
Gundersen Trail
The short hiking trail was built in 1992. Part is paved for wheelchairs and strollers and features a gazebo, picnic tables and benches with views of the river. Gundersen employees, visitors and patients, as well as others, use the trail. Sections to the irver edge are unpaved.
