WINONA, Minn. – A cybercriminal broke into data held by the Winona State University Foundation and stole contact information on donors, their demographic information, and a history of donations and dates and amounts. No social Security or bank information was lost, said Andrea Northam, the university vice president for fundraising. The Foundation has $65 million in assets. The breach in May was at a third-party data management provider, Blackbaud. Forensics experts and law enforcement were called in and prevented blocking further access, fully encrypted files, and expelled the hacker.
