LACROSSE, Wis. – The man fatally shot on the North Side early Saturday was Ernest Knox, 36, of LaCrosse, police said. Only scant information was released, but court records show that Ernest was indicted in 2014 on drug-trafficking charges that had Milwaukee and Vernon County connections. The 2014 case involved a raid on an apartment at 432 Rose Street. The shooting Saturday was in the 700 block of Rose. About the shooting, police said that it did not appear to be random, which in cop-talk means that Knox was the object of the shooter and that the public needn’t fear for its safety in general. The shooting was about 2:27 a.m. Knox died shortly afterward at a hospital.
