MADISON, Wis. — The Henry Vilas Zoo was awarded $250,000 to encourage empathy for animals. The grant is one of 20 zoos nationwide to receive such a grant from the from the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. The Madison zoo plans to create signs that will help visitors connect with animals. Courtney Cordova, the zoo’s education specialist, said that creating empathy for the animals will makes empower guests to prioritize conservation.
