WINONA, Minn. –Richard Joseph Baylon, 92, of Winona, who played drums in high school and later in local Big Band orchestras, died at Saint Anne nursing home. He also played in the Winona Municipal Band and the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He was the first kindergarten class at the then new Madison School. He graduated from Winona High School in 1945. In the U.S. Navy he served on the submarine U.S.S Cusk. He attended Winona State Teachers College  and graduated from Dunwoody Technical College. His career was with Mississippi Valley Public Service Company, which became Northern States Power and then Xcel Energy. He retired as an administrator, in charge of the electric grid from Red Wing to La Crescent.
