READS LANDNG, Minn. – Charles E. McDonald, 88, of Reads Landing, the county auditor in Wabasha, died at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Wabasha. He studied forestry at the University of Minnesota and had tales about his time in a fire lookout tower in eastern Oregon. He was in the U.S. Army in Korea and earned a Purple Heart medal. He worked as a forest ranger in Ely, Minnesota. Eventually he was lured back to his Mississippi River beginnings and loved set lining and gill netting, walleye fishing, and hunting ducks and deer in the river bottoms.
