ST. PAUL, Minn. — The federal government denied a request from Gov. Tim Walz to help the state clean up and repair damage to public infrastructure in Minneapolis and St. Paul after urban rioting that followed the police killing of George Floyd. Walz had asked President Trump to declare a disaster area, which would have made the state eligible for assistance. The governor had sought $15 million. In response the Federal Emergency Management Administration said the damage was “within the capabilities” of local and state governments to fix.
