SPARTA, Wis.—A basement fire that burned up through the first floor caused heavy smoke damage to a house along State Highway 27. No one was injured. The owners said all was well when they left about 1:30 p. m. Their daughter came home about 4:20 and found the house full of smoke and called 911. She rescued two family dogs. Fire Chief Mike Arnold said the cause was not immediately clear.
