ROCHESTER, Minn.— A rural Olmsted County man denied guilt for shooting the family dog in front of a small child. Richard Taylor Jordan, 33, was arrested in November 2019. Deputies said that Jordan explained at the time that the dog nipped at him so he shot it in the neck with a 12-gauge shotgun. A child was five to six feet away, deputies said. The shooting was in the13000 block of Highway 52 Southeast, in a far southern part of Olmsted County toward Chatfield. The charges to which Jordan has now pleaded not guilty: Felony animal mistreatment and intentional discharge of a firearm that endangered safety. Jordan was found incompetent to stand trial in March but was re-examined and ruled competent in November.
