WINONA, Minn. – An examination of student support services in Winona schools recommended changes to “better align” the work of school counselors, social workers and psychologists with the needs of students and families. The 26-page report recommended staffing adjustments, some steming from complaints in recent months about systemic weaknesses on school policing and minority sensitivity. School Superintendent Annette Freiheit preseted the report to the School Board. She said the recommendations will be vital to creating a roadmap for a thorough analysis of staffing and services going forward. “The work of the study group has finished,” she said. “The work of the district, however, is just beginning.”
