LACROSSE, Wis. – The trunk and trailer rental company U-Haul abandoned plans to convert an abandoned Kmart building into a sales site for moving supplies. A community group, Bluffside Neighborhood Association, had rallied 50 people against the U-Haul plan. The group was doubtful about the appearance, landscaping, lighting, and potential traffic. U-Haul promised “to blend in” but now has given up. Result: The Kmart building, vacant on a huge patch of blacktop, remains at the busy intersection of Losey Boulevard and State Road.
