MINNEAPOLIS – The white Minneapolis cop convicted of murdering unarmed black man George Floyd is agreeable to probation in lieu of more prison time, his attorney said. Attorney Eric Nelson made the request at a pre-sentencing hearing at which prosecutors recommended 30 years for officer Derek Chauvin. Nelson called his proposal a “downward durational departure.” Under the proposal, Chauvin’s prison time would be no more than the months he’s spent already at a maximum-security prison since last June. Judge Peter Cahill has scheduled sentencing for June 25.
