NEW YORK – A data-mining firm, Unacast, scored Winona a B in social distancing. Nearby Wabasha and Houston counties received As, Fillmore County a B. Yikes: Buffalo County in Wisconsin ranked a C. Double yikes: Trempealeau County, also in Wisconsin, a D. The Unacast scorecard collects data from apps on millions of phones nationwide, including games, shopping and utility apps. The Unacast scorecard correlates distances traveled as a proxy for social distancing. Unacast President Thomas Wall conceded the scorecard is crude but nonetheless an indicative measure of stay-at-home compliance during the COVID-19 crisis. Overall the nation scored B for a 40% decline in distance traveled. Minnesota earned A, Wisconsin B. Wyoming F.
