MINNEAPOLIS — AMinneapolis criminal defense lawyer who’s been critical of how Attorney General Keith Ellison has enforced Covid restrictions, wants his job. Lynne Torgeson announced candidacy for the Republican nomination. Also running: Former State Representative Dennis Smith and attorney Doug Wardlow, who lost to Ellison by just under 4 percentage points in 2018. Lynn has called Ellison enforcement of Covid restrictions “destructive government lockdowns” that were unfair to business and threaten Minnesotans’ freedoms and rights. In ran unsuccessfully for the U. S. House, also as a Republican, to represent Minneapolis and outlying counties. She ran for the same seat in 2010 as an independent candidate and lost. She is Minneapolis director of or Christians United for Israel, and a volunteer for Living Word Christian Center. As a lawyer she has argued for gun rights. As a criminal defense lawyer, she defends people accused of sexual misbehavior.
