WINONA, Minn. – For seven years the rooftop helipad at Winona Health has been an emergency portal for receiving critically ill patients and also or sending them off for Trauma Level 1 emergency treatment in Rochester or Trauma Level 2 treatment LaCrosse. The heliport was part of a major building project in 2004. The project also included a new clinic, outpatient diagnostic center and surgical suites. Earlier emergency helicopters used a ground helipad. The number of helipad landings at Winona Health varies but seldom is more frequent than than once a week.
