WINI\ONA, Minn. – Utility crews worked through the day to locate the break in a burst water main at Mankato Avenue and Sarnia Street on the East End. There may actually have been not only a break but also a failed valve, a worker said. Meanwhile, barricades and orange traffic-control cones narrowed traffic to two lanes or diverted traffic off Mankato onto side streets. At the Winona hospital, two blocks away, spokesperson Karen Sibenaller said no water pressure was lost at the hospital. For safety reasons, she asked that people not use the Winona Health parking area as a cut across around blocked-off sections of Mankato Avenue.
