WINONA, Minn. – The director of the Cook County Historical Society in Grand Marais for 12 years, Carrie Johnson, has been named executive director of the Winona Historical Society. She holds a master’s degree in applied anthropology from Minnesota State-Mankato. At Grand Marais. She increased the annual operating budget from $35,000 to $180,000. She unified the organization’s five historic sites by connecting their stories and averaged $70,000 in grant projects annually. Search chair Diane Dingfelder said there were 24 applicants.
