ST. PAUL, Minn. – This a moment in a politician’s life when public service gets fun. The state Budget Office reported revenue collections in January were 25% more than projected. What to do with all that money? It sure beats deficits and cutbacks. The state took in $3.2 billion in January — up $650 million. For the current fiscal year, overall revenue is at $16.2 billion — almost $1.5 billion, or just over 10%, more than expected. Corporate tax revenue in January beat projections by $642, and sales tax revenue by $2 million. Income tax revenue was off $2 million.
