BURNSVILLE, Minn. – A driver who climbed out of his wrecked car in a freeway barrow pit was then struck and killed by a truck and two cars. This was about 2:45 a.m. on Interstate 35 in this south Minneapolis suburb. Police said Austin Grosam, 20, of Mankato, was driving south in the northbound lanes. He collided head-on with another car and rolled into the ditch. He was able to get out of the car and began running but was struck by a semi-truck in the southbound lanes. He was then hit by two other vehicles. He was dead at the scene, the State Patrol said. The driver of the other car in the original collision was Hossam Hassan Elsa Elsayed, 27, of Burnsville. His injuries were described as life-threatening. The driver of the semi-truck was Timothy Dupont, 60, of Blaine. The other drivers were Navindra Persaud, 45, of Apple Valley, and Omot Okumu, 37, of Farmington. The northbound lanes of I-35 were blocked four hours for crews to untangle the wreckage.
