MILWAUKEE, Wis.— Less than a week before election day, a brother of Milwaukee’s acting mayor was arrested on felony charges, including first-degree reckless injury with a dangerous weapon. The charges are for the  shooting a man in the head in January. Arrested was Allen Addison Jr., 37. In the mayoral election  his brother, Cavalier Johnson, is seeking to keep the mayor’s seat against former Alderman Bob Donovan. Johnson, a Democrat, has been acting mayor since 2021, when Mayor Tom Barrett resigned to become U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg.

Verbatim

Johnson: “My family is no different than any other family in Milwaukee that has faced challenges. I haven’t hidden away from that. I’ve often said on the campaign trail that I’ve got one brother who has run a prison facility and another brother who has been his prisoner, who has been his inmate. I haven’t shied away from that, and this is just further proof of the beginnings and the connections that I have with the people who come from challenged neighborhoods in Milwaukee.”
