WINONA, Minn. – Not normally one to uncap a beer before lunch, Mayor Scott Sherman made an exception. “Tasted right.” Sherman said after a sip at the ceremonial unveiling of Steamboat Lager at Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits. The beer has been specially labeled for the Winona Steamboat Days festival June 15 to 19. The beer is a traditional German brew that balances malt accents with floral hops for what connoisseurs call a “restrained bitterness.” In Germany it’s called Helles.

At unveiling. Mayor lets the curtain rip. The new Steamboat lager is from Hop & Barrel Brewing Company of Spring Valley. What would Peter Bub say?
