ROCHESTER, Minn. – A Rochester man suffered severe injuries when a canopy flew off a pickup truck on Highway 52. Cham Chao, 59, was transported two miles to St. Marys hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said the canopy struck Chao’s car and he lost control. He crashed through the fence along the west frontage road at the 37th Street Northwest interchange. The driver of the pickup, a 1999 Ford F250, Kay Ione Kay, 67, of Wabasha, and a passenger in Chao’s vehicle, Phalla But, 59, of Rochester, were not injured. Chao was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot. The accident was about 8:50 a.m.
