ST. PAUL, Minn. – Friends of celebrity chef Justin Sutherland organized a crowdfunding site to help with medical expenses frpom a St. Croix boating accident. The goal is $500,000. Like many restaurant entrepreneurs from modest backgrounds, Sutherland never carried medical insurance, friends said. Since he was hospitalized July 3, Sutherland has undergone major surgeries and faces more, in including plastic surgery for facial damage. His boat’s propeller chopped into his face when he a wave rocked his boat and forced overboard. At the hospital, friends said, he’s recovering and in good spirits. The site quickly earned $206,000.
