UTICA, Minn. — A semi-truck hauling ethanol collided with a farm tractor at a rural crossroad, tearing a four-inch hole in the tank and spewing 2,800 gallons of ethanol. The truck’s fuel tank tank also was punctured, adding to the flammable pool in the ditch. A hazmat team from Rochester, 30 miles away, resolved the hazard situation. No one was injured. Lewiston and Winona firefighters were first on the scene. On radioed advice from the en route Rochester hazmat team, the local crews blocked roads 1,000 feet in all four directions. This was about 10:10 a.m. six miles south of Utica at County Road 33 and County Road 6 , between Fremont and Saratoga.
